DIY Natural Floor Cleaning Solution

Everyone wants a clean floor, but certainly not all wish to do the actual cleaning. This can be due to many of the supplies out there leaving you wanting a gas mask from the harmful and potent fumes. Here we will prescribe a healthy and fresh smelling solution to your dirty floor needs. Whether it be wood, tile, epoxy flooring, garage or other hard surfaces, we have the remedy that you can easily make yourself!

Below we list our essential ingredients, optional additions and how to use.

Essential Items:

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol
  • 2-3 drops of dish soap
  • Fine-mist spray bottle (at least 20 oz capacity) – so you are not dumping too much liquid on your delicate floors at one time — in wood, this can cause dullness, swelling, and discoloration.

Optional:

  • 3/4 cup vinegar — not for hardwood floors though. For sensitive materials, try a mixture including baking soda and dish soap
  • 5-10 drops of lemon (or essential oils)

An important issue we run into with floors is smell, because you can’t always see the clean difference. Some floors can be deceiving in how clean or un-clean they really are, but when a fresh, lemony smell hits your nostrils we all feel much better about the room. If lemon isn’t for you, try putting drops of your favorite essential oil scent(s) such as lavender, tea tree, lemongrass, orange or other. You can add (or mix) as much as desired, but remember a little goes a long way. You only want to start with a few drops because they are very strong. Essential oil kits can be purchased on Amazon and also have properties that can liven up your skin as well as other health benefits.

To Use:

Mix and pour ingredients into the spray bottle, spray on area, and wipe away with a microfiber cloth to pick up residue. For larger areas, we suggest using a microfiber dust mop with your solution sparingly.

We hope this solution works best for your needs and makes you feel better about cleaning. After using more eco-friendly solutions, it feels like a much more natural environment for the home and office. Not to mention the smell, it makes you feel better prepared and safer when animals and children are around because the harsh chemicals are not an issue.
